Safety and responsibilities

Aircraft Hire Policy

Terms for pilots hiring Camfly’s EuroStar EV-97.

Introduction

This document outlines the aircraft hire policy and the captain’s (hirer’s) related responsibilities. It sets expectations so safe and legal flights can be conducted.

The aircraft

  • Registration: G-CDVU
  • Aircraft: EV-97 TEAMEUROSTAR UK
  • Class: Microlight
  • MTOW: 450kg
  • Manufacturer: Cosmik Aviation Ltd (factory built)

Hiring process

Before hiring for the first time, every pilot must arrange a check of their logbook, medical certificate and licence. If necessary, the pilot will perform a check flight with an instructor to assess their skills on the aircraft. Camfly Ltd may arrange a check flight with a qualified instructor. Once the instructor confirms the pilot’s currency, the aircraft may be hired for self-fly.

Before the check flight, members should complete and sign the Pilot Declaration. Completing the booking-out sheet for later hires will be treated as reconfirmation of the initial declaration.

Pilot currency

The pilot in command (P1) must remain current for self-fly hire. A check flight with a qualified instructor is required when the pilot:

  • is hiring for the first time;
  • has flown fewer than 10 hours in total; or
  • has flown less than one hour in the previous 45 days.

Documentation library

All hirers must read and understand the Pilot’s Operating Handbook before flight. A copy is also kept in the aircraft.

Aircraft Conditions of Hire

  1. Every hiring pilot must read these conditions and the operating handbook, note all relevant limits and performance figures, and complete a weight and balance check before flight.
  2. All bookings must be made through the online booking system. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before hire; after that or in case of a no-show, the total reservation will be charged. Rescheduling is free up to 12 hours before hire.
  3. The aircraft is owned by Camfly Ltd and hiring pilots must be Camfly Ltd members.
  4. A passenger may be carried, but no charge may be made. Reasonable cost sharing is acceptable.
  5. The pilot is liable for the published hire charge, all landing fees except the final landing at the home airfield, a £500 accident insurance excess, and the full cost of loss or damage to equipment supplied with the aircraft. Hire time is measured brakes-off to brakes-on. If weather prevents return, only actual return-flight time is charged.
  6. Payment must be made by cash, cheque, card, or another method accepted by Camfly Ltd.
  7. The aircraft may be flown within the territory allowed by its current insurance. The pilot must verify current geographical cover before flight. Cover excludes operations that breach United Nations sanctions.
  8. Refuel with unleaded MOGAS / BS EN 228 (97 preferred, or 95), or Avgas 100LL. Use the filter funnel when refuelling.
  9. After a mechanical failure, secure the aircraft at an airfield where possible and contact Camfly Ltd for instructions.
  10. After an accident, the pilot in command is responsible for notifying the relevant authorities and, unless incapacitated, Camfly Ltd before the end of the hire period.
  11. No other pilot, including another member, may fly the aircraft without the hirer’s permission.
  12. Complete the booking-out sheet after hire. Report any defect discovered during flight immediately and enter it in the aircraft book.
